Helena Velická studied the cello at the Prague Conservatory and choir conducting at the Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. She has attended several master classes both in the Czech Republic and abroad, e.g. the Prague Summer Academy; The Sandor Vegh International Academy of Chamber Music in Dobříš; Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan University, US; orchestral courses Die Internationale Sommer Akademie in Pommersfelden, Germany; Musik Festival in Arosa, Switzerland. She has won numerous awards: as the winner of the national competition for young cello players she played a solo part at a concert in the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum; in 2003 she won a study and performing scholarship in Dublin, Ireland. She is an active solo and chamber music player both at home and abroad. She is the choirmaster of the MáTa choir and teaches at a Music School in Prague 10. She performs contemporary music and premieres new compositions. She is a member of the contemporary music association Konvergence, plays in the Pavel Haas chamber orchestra, and is the second cellist of the Berg orchestra. She also collaborates with the National Theatre Orchestra and the women’s choir Iuventus Paedagogica and works with renowned performers of both classical and popular music, e.g. with Daniel Hůlka or Iva Bittová. She regularly appears at musical festivals, records for the Czech Radio Broadcast and the Czech Television and provides musical accompaniment to several drama productions ( the Komedie Theatre, the Disk Theatre, the Kolowrat Studio, the Estates Theatre etc.).
